EPW - Charles Frodsham, 84 Strand, London, pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement, helical hairspring, and 24-hour winding indicator, 48mm, 18K gold OF original case bearing London hallmarks for 1862, "R R" marking in oval cameo for casemaker Robert Rowlands, center rear of case with engraving of an armored arm extending through a crown and holding a sword, white enamel SS dial, fully capped spring detent escapement, possibly 17J, free-sprung balance with helical hairspring and diamond endstone, gilt mvt, s#01525 with matching serial number to dial. Gross weight of assembled watch 67.9 dwt (105.6 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running though seconds-hand fits somewhat loosely and will occasionally stop driving as watch continues to run, good winding indicator function, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, some mild haze spotting in space between winding arbor escutcheon and edge of plate, few micro-fine scratches, some mild ultra-fine scratch striations likely from past wipings; dial with light hl between center and 12, short hl above seconds-register, short hl below seconds-register; excellent hands; case shows medium wear, no dents or dings, reduced engine turning detail with full loss of rear shoulder; tight bow thinned at top and with some gold soldered repair of different color to its upper underside; glass crystal with few scattered small scratches.
